Tangent to Circle

Use this function to compute the location of a line that is tangent to the specified sides of two specified circles. This will compute two solutions based on the values you input. To store the solution, simply press the Store A or Store B button which will ask you to confirm the computed positions before storing.

See example below:

Workflow

When the user enters into the function from the calculations page they will be shown the Tangent to Circle toolbar .

Input Fields:

There are 3 required input fields that need to be filled in before the store buttons become enabled for the software to compute solution points.

The 3 required fields are:

Tangent line – User uses the drop-down picker list to select the tangent line method

Radius point – User selected point, can also use the map view to pick point from the map screen

Radius – User entered value, radius value must be equal or greater than 0.

once the user has provided sufficient information the store buttons become enabled and the user can now pick on the "i" button to review the computed solution points before storing the points to the database.

After the user reviews the computed results, they can select on the Store A or Store B buttons to store the selected solution point. After storing the selected point, the button will become disabled to prevent the user from storing a duplicate point and allow the user to store the second solution point if required. If storing the additional point is not required the user may start entering in new information to compute a new solution or hit the close button to return to the main menu.

COGO Results

Every calculation you make is written to the file called CogoCalcs.txt located in your Project folder.

Please see the COGO History Viewer topic for more information.
